Bangkok, Thailand
20-22 November 1999
The three-day Inaugural Conference of Asian Third Sector Researchers at
the Bangkok Hilton International Hotel brought together almost ninety researchers
from fourteen countries in the Asian region.
Among the over seventy papers that were presented were topics such as the growth of volunteerism in japan and the decline of co-operatives in India. Overall, many papers were largely descriptive of the Third Sector, and provided an opportunity to hear about the changing shape and importance of the Third Sector throughout the Asian regions. The high proportion of young scholars presenting at almost every session offered a positive outlook on the future of the Third Sector research.
